Position: Science Instructor for Grades 1-5
Schedule: 7:30-4:00 Monday-Thursday, 7:30-2:00 Friday
 

Job Summary

The Science Instructor will inspire students to understand and apply scientific concepts and skills, cultivate an appreciation of science in everyday life, prepare students for success in future science coursework, foster a growth mindset, and equip students to become curious thinkers, problem solvers, and effective scientific communicators.

The ideal candidate will hold a single-subject credential in Life or Physical Science (or equivalent) and have experience teaching science at the elementary, middle, and/or high school level. Expertise in Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or other STEM-related courses is highly valued. Candidates with a passion for making science engaging and accessible to younger learners are encouraged to apply. Interest in robotics and/or coding is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned Elementary School Science courses in grades 1–5.
• Develop and refine curriculum maps, lessons, and units of study that meet or exceed the requirements of NGSS standards.
• Adapt age-appropriate science instruction that fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and hands-on learning.
• Actively implement Responsive Classroom methodologies and strategies.
• Attend and participate in all staff development, including orientation, professional development, and collaborative learning opportunities.
• Participate in and/or lead special school events, including Open House, Back-to-School Night, grade-level trips, and student performances.
• Assess student progress and achievement using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
• Use student data to inform instruction and support individual academic and social-emotional growth.
• Be visibly and actively present for all assigned campus duties.
• Maintain frequent communication and collaboration with colleagues, students, families, and other school stakeholders.
• Serve as an active member of the school community while supporting the school's mission and guiding principles.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism, meeting deadlines and fulfilling commitments.
• Collaborate with grade-level teams, department colleagues, and student support staff to design curriculum and monitor student growth.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings and curriculum development initiatives.
• Attendance at additional school and community events is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Life Science, Physical Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or a related science discipline (or ability to obtain appropriate California certification).
• A minimum of four years of science teaching experience at the elementary, middle, or high school level. Candidates with high school science teaching experience who are excited to transition into elementary education are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Experience teaching one or more science disciplines, including Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or other STEM courses.
• Strong understanding of NGSS standards or a willingness to quickly become proficient in implementing them at the elementary level.
• Experience with STEM, project-based learning, robotics, coding, or inquiry-based instruction is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, classroom management, and relationship-building skills.
• Passion for inspiring young learners and making science engaging, accessible, and hands-on.

Compensation: $70,000-$75,000 annually DOE
